Link between cell phones and cancer unproven

Larry Junck , MD Professor, Neuro-Oncology Clinic explains there is little evidence to support a link between cell phone use and brain cancer.

Question: Difference between an observational study and experiment in this problem?
One study of cell phones and the risk of rain cancer looked at a group of 469 people who have brain cancer. The investigators matched each cancer patient with a person of the same sex, age, and race who did not have brain cancer, then asked about used of cell phones. Result: “our data suggest that use of hand-held cellular telephones is not associated with risk of brain cancer”.
Is this an observational study or an experiment?
It’d be great if you could explain it to me
because it it’s an experiment then something must be manipulated, right?
Thanks

You’re exactly right. This was an observational study. If they took the a group of people who did NOT use cell phones (good luck finding those people), divided them into two groups and then found a way to get one group to begin using cell phones and the other to never begin using cell phones and then compare brain tumor rates a few years later, THAT would be an experiment.
Only a few decades ago there was no proven connection between smoking and cancer. So what about Cell Phones?
Question: Only a few decades ago there was no proven connection between smoking and cancer. So what about Cell Phones?
Some people almost seem to ridicule the notion that cell phones might cause cancer.
The first thing said in response is often “everything causes cancer” – which is simply untrue.
We can isolate some things which cause cancer. Could cell phones be such a thing?
Some experts say they do cause cancer. This is hardly a consensus. But there is more and more attention being paid to the issue.
What do you think about it?

The air you breathe could cause cancer. (Look up “chemtrails” if you don’t believe me.) I think that yes, prolonged and constant use of a cell phone could do damage to the cells in the brain. However, with normal use it would take a long time for such effect to occur.
